The Royal Society of Publishing has released its latest ‘Philosophical Transactions A’ peer-reviewed paper on the ‘Atmospheric effects of solar eclipses stimulated by the 2015 UK eclipses’, which includes a contribution by Biral’s Meteorological Products Manager, Alec Bennett.
Entitled the ‘Effects of the March 2015 solar eclipse on near-surface atmospheric electricity’, Alec Bennett’s article is amongst 16 other exploratory research articles within the paper which explore the many issues and effects of eclipses on the weather. The paper includes work from professionals across the industry, whose work analyses surface, balloon and satellite observations, which together will create a new interdisciplinary research area in eclipse weather.
Alec Bennett’s study is supported by comprehensive research and testing using Biral’s own meteorological sensors, the BTD-300 Thunderstorm Detection system and VPF-730 Visibility and Present Weather sensors. The measurements took place across two sites: Biral’s headquarters in Portishead, Bristol and the Reading University Atmospheric Observatory (RUAO).
