UK based scientific equipment manufacturer, Biral, is exhibiting at the Amercian Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) 35th Annual Conference.
The event, running from 17th to 21st October is organised by the AAAR and attracts scientists and engineers from all over the world and is being hosted at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
Visitors to the event will be able to participate in platform and poster presentations, symposia on various topics, as well as see many lectures which will highlight the latest advances in aerosol science and technology.
Biral will be exhibiting at the event to discuss its own Aerosol Optical Tweezer (AOT) equipment. Biral’s AOT-100 device was developed and manufactured in collaboration with Bristol University Aerosol Research Centre.
Unlike other aerosol instruments that have mostly relied on transits through an illuminated measuring space that last of the order of microseconds, the Biral AOT-100 allows users to hold airborne particles for extended periods with ease. Holding particles in an optical trap enables many different parameters to be studied continuously, over times varying from milliseconds to hours.
The Biral AOT offers a step-change in what can be achieved in the measurement of airborne particles. It is a tool that can be used for a very wide variety of research objectives many of which may be novel. The instrument has been designed to provide a range of techniques that have had extensive development and have been shown to be reliable. The components and design of the system offer a high degree of flexibility that should enable the development of new applications. Biral would be pleased to discuss and offer advice on the feasibility of such applications.
The equipment has most recently been used by The Wilson Research Group at the Chemical Sciences Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in California as part of their research towards the long-time chemistry of aqueous aerosol in the atmosphere.
