When the owner of a farmhouse in the hills above Swansea was looking to re-paint her home, she chose a specialist Andura coating for a more lasting finish.
Penlannau Farm near Pontardawe is a large limestone walled property with features suggesting 13th century origins. It was reputedly built by the Earl of Jersey who owned land in the area. At 1,000 feet above sea level, Penlannau Farm has beautiful panoramic views that include the Gower Peninsula, Preseli Hills, Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains.
The farmhouse owner, Mrs Snowdon, was introduced to the Andura coating by local home improvement company, Home Perfections of Swansea. She commented, “We were fed up with having to paint the farmhouse every two or three years so we were delighted to discover the Andura coating. We liked the technology behind the coating in that it is breathable and insulates the limestone walls.” She continues, “The farmhouse now looks fantastic, everyone has commented on it and we were very happy with Home Perfections who did an excellent job for us.”
Mrs Snowdon took advantage of Andura’s colour matching service for a very special finish. 120 litres of the high performance Andura Pro-Flex coating was then manufactured to cover the 200 sq.metres of the farmhouse walls.
With 20 years’ experience in the industry, Home Perfections has a long working relationship with Andura and has found their product to be of superior quality and longevity compared to others on the market. Home Perfections use a five stage application process for the Andura coating which in this case was applied by brush and roller. The first stage is wall preparation and cleaning to remove years of dirt, flaking paintwork and loose render. This is followed by pre-application protection of all doors, windows, paths and surrounding areas. The next stage is to carry out any remedial work such as the re-rendering of the walls before applying primer for a high quality bond. The final stage of application is applying the Andura coating which is up to 20 times thicker than standard paint.
Before undertaking work on the farmhouse, Home Perfections had to remove a large amount of ivy from the exterior of the property and there was a lot of black staining and algae growth from surrounding farmland, which had to be treated.

Pro-Flex Ultimate is classified as ‘highly breathable’ and ‘highly water resistant’ as tested in accordance with German (DIN), European (EN) and International (ISO) standards. The addition of silicon resin and silane to Pro-Flex considerably improves resistance to dirt pick-up.
